Anglers 41
Total Fish Caught 113
Fish Released:  78

The bank has been the most productive area recently, with plenty of fish holding close along the margins. Anglers have been catching on a wide range of methods including small black nymphs, washing-line setups, black snakes, and indicators with egg or worm patterns. Staying mobile and fishing tight to the bank has been the key. Friday’s double stocking went in very smoothly, and it was great to see the fish in such good condition as always.

Catch highlights
Catch returns were steady this week with most anglers landing three or four fish. Tony Cefai managed a lovely 5.3lb fish, while John Gray had seven on Sunday. Chris Blanchard’s persistence paid off with four, and yesterday Matt Collerson fished from the Lagoon up to the dam. He had takes right through Shallow Bay, Goodfellows, Pensioners and in front of the trees, finishing with 14 fish on small eggs fished under the bung at 18 inches—almost all of them tight to the margins. There also seemed to be a few fish getting caught at Brookside. The key was to keep moving.

Fishing Report – Saturday 15thh – Friday 21st November

Anglers 67
Total Fish Caught 159
Fish Released:  83

A quiet week due to the cold and windy conditions, on the days that were fishable there were some decent bags, caught mainly on small black flies - crunchers DB,s  black lures and fabs.   Water levels are now perfect for the boat landing stages.

Catch Report Highlights
Tuesday – Mike Carpenter had 13 from his boat and Dave Strudwick had 11 from the bank.
Thursday Clive Trundle had 9 from the bank and Doug Isles had 7 from his boat
Friday Pete and Mac had 13 to their boat including a 7lb trout caught by Pete off Pensioners Point on a black snake.

Sunday 16th – Nigel Cheetham Memorial Fur & Feather

Conditions were tough, with a cold north-easterly wind and an extra 1.5ft of floodwater in the lake following Saturday’s flooding. Congratulations to John Thomson, who took first place fishing from a boat. He began around the Gravel Bar/Shallow Bay area, where he netted one fish, before moving to the Brookside bank under the wires, completing his limit on a Pitsford Pea fished on a floating line.

A consistent performance from Matt Collerson secured 2nd place, landing six fish from the bank in the Lagoon using small egg flies under an indicator.

3rd place went to Robert Thorold, who fished from the bank between Brookside and under the wires, netting four fish on FABs and Blobs. Overall, 31 anglers netted 47 fish.

A massive thank you to everyone who fished and donated prizes for the raffle, raising £562 for the Air Ambulance.

Winner 2025 Elinor Fur & Feather John Thomson

Fishing Report – Saturday 8th – Friday 14th November

Anglers 81
Total Fish Caught 171
Fish Released:  123

Over the past week, the bank has been outperforming the boats, and several resident fish have been caught. The fish are feeding on small buzzers, from the margins of the Gravel Bar right round to the Dam and up to Brookside Bay. Washing-line tactics or dries have been the most successful methods. The fish have also been switching on later in the morning as the air temperature rises.

After Friday’s deluge, we had some fresh water in from the Brook. Thankfully, it wasn’t too coloured, and visibility remains good and is at around 3ft today. Water levels are now perfect for the boat landing stages. A double stocking went in smoothly on Thursday, and we should be set for some excellent winter sport.

Fishing Report
Saturday 1st November – Friday 7th November
Anglers: 93
Total Fish Caught: 194
Fish Released: 150

Overview
Conditions remained similar to last week. A windy start to the week made fishing a little more challenging, b water clarity continues to improve, now standing at around 3ft. Bank fishing is picking up, with fish feeding actively on buzzers in the margins. The lake generally starts to switch on around 11 a.m. Anglers are advised to keep their flies within the top foot of water, with washing line tactics, dry flies, and indicator fishing proving to be the most effective approaches.

Event Report – TEFF Bank Qualifier (Sunday 2nd November)

8.9lb Andrius
7.6lb M Barrett - Brown Hopper
6.1lb Simon Townsend - Black Cruncher

Overview
High pressure dominated throughout the week, bringing with it the dreaded flat calm conditions on most days. Despite this, anglers have still enjoyed some excellent sport particularly those out on the boats, which have continued to be the most productive.

Bank fishing is also steadily improving as temperatures cool and water clarity reaches the best it’s been all year. Fish have been seen feeding right across the lake, with small buzzers on or just below the surface proving to be the main food source. A few have also been chasing fry, particularly around the boat dock and overflow corner.

Even with the challenging calm conditions, consistent catches have come to anglers using washing line tactics, dry flies, and the occasional lure pattern when the light dropped or a ripple appeared. With temperatures continuing to fall and the next stocking approaching, prospects for the coming week look very promising, especially for those willing to mix tactics and stay mobile.

Catch Report Highlights – Best Bags of the Week
Sunday: Darren Oram led the way with 14 fish taken from his boat while drifting over the weed beds near the Gravel Bar. Kelvin Burton also enjoyed success, landing 5 fish.
Monday: Andrius had a superb day, landing 13 fish, including the fish of the week at 8.9lb, caught while wading off Pensioners Point. Andrew Wilson added 6 fish from his boat.
Tuesday: Ray Ward recorded 5 fish from his boat.
Wednesday: Paul Gillies caught 6 fish from his boat, while Alan Colver added 5 from his own session afloat.
Thursday: Boat partners Mark Marsden and Tony Gill netted 14 fish between them. Doug Isles had 6, while Roy Hosmer caught 6 and Dave Miles landed 5 fish both from the bank

Overview
A quiet weekend due to Storm Amy passing through. The weather conditions made for a challenging start at the beginning of the week, but fishing steadily improved as the days went on for both boat and bank anglers.

Fish were spread evenly throughout the lake, and it’s encouraging to see some of the larger fish starting to show again. On calmer days, good numbers of fish were seen rising to small black midges and daddies throughout the day.

The most effective approaches have been dry fly and washing line tactics.

Elinor Trout Fishery Weekly Fishing Report
Date: Saturday 20th – Friday 26th September
Anglers: 70
Total Fish Caught: 250
Fish Released: 129

Overview
A great week at Elinor, with a huge improvement in sport as the week progressed and some excellent bags recorded. Good buzzer hatches are now coming through, with plenty of fish rising and showing down the middle of the lake.

In overcast conditions, fish were high in the water with dries and washing-line tactics working well. In brighter or windier spells, the best catches came from 1–2 ft down using washing-line setups or lures. Fish were well spread throughout the lake, though boats generally outperformed the bank.

Elinor Trout Fishery Weekly Fishing Report

Date: Saturday 6th  – Friday 12th September
Anglers:38
Total Fish Caught: 38
Fish Released:  27

Overview
After a long, hot summer and periods of unsettled winds, the past couple of weeks have been understandably slow. Encouragingly, conditions are now improving and catches are increasing. Water temperature is steady at 16°C, with 4–6 inches of visibility as the summer algae blooms continue to clear. Fish are showing across the middle of the lake, feeding on buzzers in the top foot of water. Early signs of fry-feeding are also appearing in the West Arm, a welcome indication that the lake is gradually coming back to life.

Catch Report Highlights
Dave Strudwick netted 6 on Midas dry’s drifting out of shallow bay to the Middle pylon and Mike bounds caught four on hares’ ears from the bank in overflow corner.

Anglers: 47
Total Fish Caught: 57
Fish Released: 51

Summer Break – Early Closure This Saturday

Another hot and quiet week here at Elinor! As water temperatures continue to rise, the fishing has started to slow down, and with more hot weather expected in the long-range forecast, we’ve decided to close this coming Saturday at 2pm for our summer break reopening on Monday 1st September.

If you have a booking in the diary, please get in touch and we’ll be happy to reschedule it for you.

If you’d like to book a boat for September, please email us at enquiries@elinortf.co.uk or leave a message on 01832 720786 – we’ll be in touch before we reopen.

Thank you for your continued support. Elinor has had a fantastic start to the year, and we wish you a wonderful summer!

Elinor Weekly Update 1 – 5 September 2025

It’s been a slow start to the week with windy conditions dominating. The water temperature is now 17.3°C, coming down nicely, and buzzer hatches have been showing throughout the day as well as during calmer evenings when the wind hasn’t been howling!

Water clarity is around 1.5 ft after the recent hot spell triggered an algae bloom, which should hopefully clear very soon, especially with the wet weather.

Please note:
Due to the low water levels, boat access will be from the bank. We appreciate your understanding and look forward to a fantastic autumn and winter season.

 Saturday 7- Friday 13 June
96  Anglers caught 255 fish of which 187 fish were released

A fabulous week at Elinor…Surface patterns have been performing well all week, thanks to consistent cloud cover. Productive flies have included foam daddies, hoppers, CDCs, and or a washing line with FABs, small buzzers, DBs, and unweighted damsels. Keeping your flies in the top foot of the water column — even when the sun breaks through, has consistently been the best approach. All areas of the water are producing fish, with activity peaking in the mornings and late evenings.

On Thursday Elinor held Iain Barr’s dry fly masterclass, and his feedback was as follows….

“7 guys all fished techniques from the bank using a variety of flies given by Iain Barr Fly Fishing  Fish were rising everywhere, and it wasn't long (2nd cast) until an angler was into one. All anglers caught or at least hooked up and lost fish and father and son combo lead the way with 4 and 3 with plenty of missed chances . Olive Culs/Yellow Owls seemed favourite from their selections. Elinor remains in tip top form, and we saw so many fish moving, the place is rammed and mostly top of the water fishing. Just beautiful. More Iain Barr Masterclass days will be booked after September so register your interest at the fishery..... something else may be happening at Elinor later this year.... watch this space. ”

Saturday 31st May - Friday 6th June
80 Anglers caught 105  fish of which 77  fish were released

Much the same as last week, with things a little quieter due to the windy, unsettled weather. Fishing remains productive, particularly in the East Arm (Middle Pylon) and West Arm areas. Fish are well spread, from Brookside right through to the backs of both arms. The most successful methods continue to be the washing line, using Diawl Bachs, Crunchers, Buzzers, or Damsel patterns fished over the weed beds; for those who prefer dry fly fishing, surface action has been consistent with Hoppers, Foam Daddies, Midas, and small dries working well — especially with fish feeding confidently in the top couple of feet, even in brighter conditions. Bank anglers are also seeing good results, particularly from the Coarse Fish Bank, Lagoon, East Arm, and around the Middle Pylon.

Catch Report Highlights
Saturday – Sean Roe landed a quality 5.4lb trout from the bank at the back of the East Arm, using a Blue Flash Damsel.
Sunday – John Thomson caught a 4.3lb trout on a Blue Flash Damsel from his boat.
Wednesday – Mark Marsden and Dave Gunby enjoyed a productive session, bringing 11 fish to the boat, including impressive catches of 8lb and 6lb. Successful tactics included floating lines with Damsel Boobies and Daddies.
Thursday – Martin Ward netted 12 fish, all taken on yellow and orange FABs. Clive Trundle added 8 fish to the count, with both anglers fishing from a boat at the back of the East Arm.
Friday – David Thompson capped off the week with a fine 8lb trout from his boat in the East Arm.

 Saturday 24th – Friday 30th May
90 anglers caught 180 fish, with 153 released

A windy week at Elinor brought more challenging conditions, and a reduction in anglers. There was however a much-needed shift in wind direction, from a persistent north-easterly to a more favourable south-south-westerly which helped distribute fish more evenly across the East and West arms, as well as into the lagoon area. Consistent hatches of small black or dark olive buzzers continued throughout the week, accompanied by plenty of small daddies, mayflies, and a now fully underway damsel fly hatch. Fish remain high in the water column, with intermediate lines being the deepest required. On cloudy days with lighter breezes, dry fly fishing has been excellent, with plenty of rising fish to target.

Catch Report Highlights
Saturday Lazloe Boden landed 13, mainly on crunchers.  The Complete Fly Fisher Forum enjoyed a weekend afloat in their tubes, Mick Revell caught 19, including the fish of the week a superb 7lb rainbow and both Mick Rimmer and Nigel Organ each had 10. On Wednesday  Alan Colver caught a beautiful 5lb brown from his boat.

What an Exciting Week at Elinor! We were proud to host part of the Commonwealth Fly Fishing Championship this week, and what a fantastic few days it was! There was plenty of action, with impressive catches and top-level angling on display from teams around the world. (Write-up from the Championship below).

Plenty of fish were caught from both the bank and the boat, with the lodge end of the lake proving to be the most productive area. Despite changing weather conditions, anglers adapted well, black and green lures, dries, and washing line tactics on floating and midge tip lines brought great success throughout the week.

Saturday 10 - 16 May
97 Anglers caught. 484  fish of which 416fish were released

This week brought conditions similar to last, with boats performing best under bright sunshine, while bank fishing improved significantly during more overcast periods. Fish activity has remained concentrated in the early mornings and again in the late evenings.

During sunny spells, the most effective method continued to be the washing line setup, fished with either a floating line or a slow sink tip. On cloudier mornings, dry flies have proven successful, offering some exciting surface action.

Notably, the first adult damsels have started to appear along the margins, alongside emerging mayflies and buzzers. Sedge have been hatching in the evenings, with all species coming off in good numbers and attracting fish to the surface.

Saturday 3 - Friday 9 May
138 Anglers caught 644 fish, of which 502 fish were released

It was an excellent week at Elinor. Bank fishing picked up thanks to more overcast conditions and lighter winds, although the continued east-northeast breeze did slow down the morning buzzer hatch. Despite this, fish remained active and happily fed sub-surface throughout the day.

The most productive method was the washing line, using either a floating line or a slow sink tip. Effective flies included a mix of buzzers, nymphs, small damsel patterns, and the ever-reliable black and green lures. The first of the adult damsels are showing around the margins.

Saturday 26 April - Friday 3 May

135 Anglers caught 422 fish, of which 254 fish were released

It was a warmer, quieter week at Elinor, with the bright sunny conditions pushing the fish into the deeper water, giving boat anglers a clear advantage. Intermediate or floating lines combined with weighted lures and buzzers were the most effective tactics. Bank anglers faced more challenging conditions, with the best success coming in the early mornings.

Catch Report Highlights

Saturday: Tim Hodkinson landed 9 fish from the bank, while Les Lerigo caught 12 from his boat.
Sunday: Darren Oram caught an impressive 18 and landed fish of the week an 8lb cracker caught on an Ali Mcoist and Marius had a solid session, bringing 10 fish to the net.

Tuesday: Andy Burgess and Ive Fisher teamed up to catch 19 fish from their boat near the dam, including Ive’s 5.9lb, fishing static buzzers. Fishing between 10 – 15ft.
Thursday: Lorenzo matched Darren’s 18 fish, using black and green lures in front of the middle pylon

Darren Oram’s Pristine 8lb Rainbow

Saturday 19th - Friday 25th April
173  Anglers caught 561 fish, of which 392 fish were released

The cooler mornings have meant that fishing in the afternoon has been more productive, as the air temperature warms there has been good hatches of black and olive buzzers. In the cloudier conditions the bank fishing picked up, with some excellent bags being landed. The most effective method from the bank has been fishing a FAB or buzzer on the point, with buzzers or Diawl Bachs, or Crunchers on the droppers.
Boat anglers are finding success straight-lining buzzers, fishing the washing line, or using an intermediate line with black/green or white/green lures and damsels. A few fish are also being taken on dries, as the hawthorn flies are being blown onto the water. However, the cooler easterly winds have slowed the evening fishing slightly. The water temperature is perfect at 14°C. With a warmer week ahead in the forecast, we're hopeful that evening rises and dry fly sport will kick off properly soon.

Catch Report Highlights
It’s been a fantastic week on the water with some great catches recorded! On Saturday, Alan Colver landed 10 fish from his boat. Sunday Tom Davis caught fish of the week 9.6lb rainbow on a blue flash damsel and Lazlo took an impressive 14 fish, from his boat, with olive crunchers and buzzers doing the damage. Matt Murphy matched Alan's total with 10 fish as well. On Tuesday, Stephen Illingworth also caught an impressive 14 fish, fishing in front of the dam, using Ali McCoists and buzzers. Clive Trundle had a great session on Thursday, bringing 11 fish to the boat. And on Friday, Dave Etty capped off the week nicely by landing a stunning 8lb brown trout. Well done to all the anglers!

Important Rules Reminder

Tackle and Line Disposal: All anglers must properly dispose of fishing line.  Leaving line on the grass creates serious hazards for animals (especially Wilbur and Olive) and other anglers. Please take your line home with you or use the bins provided.
Catch Limits: Your ticket clearly states the number of fish you are permitted to take. Taking more than your allowance is considered theft and will result in an immediate ban from the fishery. We recently had to ban an angler for exceeding their limit — please respect the rules so everyone can continue to enjoy the water.
We appreciate everyone who follows the rules and helps keep the fishery a safe, clean, and fair place for all.

Catch Report Highlights It’s been a fantastic week on the water with some great catches recorded! Important Rules Reminder • Tackle and Line Disposal: All anglers must properly dispose of fishing line. Leaving line on the grass creates serious hazards for animals (especially Wilbur and Olive) and other anglers. Please take your line home with you or use the bins provided. • Catch Limits: Your ticket clearly states the number of fish you are permitted to take. 9.6lb – Tom Davies (Blue Flash Damsel)

Saturday 12th - Friday 18th April
186  Anglers caught 684 fish  of which 473 were released

It was a blustery week at Elinor, with strong winds making conditions challenging at times. But even the gusts didn’t deter the season’s first cuckoo—its distinctive call could be heard echoing across the lake, a sure sign that spring is in full swing. The boat anglers came out on top, with the best bags and biggest fish consistently coming from the boats. Several anglers recorded double-figure catches across the week, proving just how well the fish have been feeding.
That said, there were still some notable results from the bank. Chris Selby broke the boat-dominated pattern on Monday, landing an impressive 15 fish from the bank on black and green patterns.
The standout catches of the week came from Mark Parsley and Rob Thorold who caught 32 on Saturday, using washing line tactics with buzzers and from Darren Oram who caught the week’s biggest fishes;  during his evening boat session on Tuesday, he landed 11 fish, including a superb 8lb rainbow, followed it up on Thursday evening with a stunning 10lb fish, taken on an Ally McCoist.
Fish are feeding in the open water, through the middle on black and olive buzzers. Most naturals are around size 12, but some larger buzzers are beginning to hatch.
Best patterns were black and olive buzzers, crunchers, and black/green lures. In the cloudier conditions the fish have been sitting high, taking flies in the top three feet. On the sunnier days a long-line approach with buzzers fished deeper (7–10 feet) has also brought excellent results.

Saturday 5th - Friday 11th April 2025
143  Anglers caught 781 fish of which 602 were released

The weekend kicked off with strong winds, making learning to cast extra challenging for those anglers on the beginner’s day, despite the conditions everyone caught and had a really enjoyable day, and we would once again like to convey our thanks to the Mid Northants Trout Fishers Association for their time and for holding another successful beginner’s day at Elinor.

A North Easterly wind dominated the week and bought with it cooler mornings, this didn’t slow the buzzer feeding down and fish were being caught from all areas of the lake with size 10-12 buzzers and nymphs working well; as the day warmed up in the bright sunshine the fish started to move out into the deeper water and the best catches throughout the week came from the boats; fishing from between 5-10ft down either long line or under an indicator.

The best bags of the week were as follows: on Saturday Khurram Rana had 19 from the Dam area, Sunday, John Parnham caught 16, Graham Cotton caught 11 on Pitsford Pea’s and Hothead Crunchers and Adrian Wilkins had 10. On Monday Chris Selby had 10 from the bank of the Dam, Tuesday father and son Nigel and Max Woolnough had 19 in front of the boat dock and Tony Milano caught 15 from his tube.  Andrew Leibish caught 10 on his afternoon session on Wednesday, catching on buzzers and blue flash damsels. Thursday David Slessor caught 10 and on Friday Dave Strudwick caught 26 - bag of the week, and Andrius and Ive both had 11, Andrius was fishing from the bank of the boat dock on a morning session and Ive caught on olive and black buzzers.
Elinor is really starting to come to life, the buzzer hatches coupled with the warmer air temps and lighter winds bode well for some spectacular evening rises.

Saturday 29th March - Friday 4th  April
127 Anglers caught 505  fish of which 369 were released.

The weekend was met with strong N/W winds making the conditions more challenging, although this wasn’t reflected from the size of the bags caught on Saturday; Andrius caught 26, Dave Franklin and Ollie Jenkinson both had 12, Ollie catching on blue flash damsels and black/green lures. Dave Rix, Tom Finney and Mark Parsley all had 10 from the bank. On Sunday Elinor held the TEFF bank qualifier, 12 anglers netted 32 fish, with a 15-32 mph wind head-on this was not an easy match. Black and green lures, Shammies fished under an indicator, and washing line tactics with buzzers all proved successful. It remained a close contest right up to the final session, when Ed Foster landed 3 fish from his last peg using washing line and buzzers to secure first place.

Results:
1st – Ed Foster
2nd – Richard Haines
3rd – Stephen Fish
4th – Craig Compton
A big thanks to Bruce Blackshaw for running such a well-organized match!

The rest of the week brought a shift in wind direction to the East/Northeast, combined with a lack of cloud cover, again making for tougher fishing conditions. However, the lake has still been producing and some solid bags continued throughout the week, best bags were; David Slesser landed 20 fish on red buzzers fished 6–10 feet deep under an indicator in the Dam area from a boat, Tony Milano who had 13 from his float tube and Richard Ingly and Dave Hardwick had a great session also from a boat, landing 33 fish between them in the East Arm using a mix of flies ranging from red tags to black and green lures.

The brisk, cooler North/East wind has slowed down the buzzer hatches, but we’re hopeful that some lighter winds and more overcast skies will soon kickstart the surface sport.

Saturday 22nd - Friday 28th March
173 Anglers caught 813 fish of which 653 were released.

Another cracking week here at Elinor - the colder starts have meant the fish have been switching on mid-morning and feeding in the warmer afternoons on the small black or olive buzzers hatches. On Saturday The All Ability Anglers had a friendly boat match landing 73 fish between 17 anglers, congratulations to both Shaun Higgins on taking first place with 16 fish and Dave Etty for coming in second with 10 fish catching in the West Arm/Pylon point areas on buzzers and crunchers. Once again there have been some decent double figure bags caught throughout the week; On Saturday John Balladon netted a 6lb brown along with his bag of 17 on crunchers and tequila fabs from the bank. On Sunday Mr Brooks landed 26 on the bank of the East Arm, Monday Darren Trumper fished the East Arm - Brookside in a boat and returned 15 for the day, fishing a washing line set up with crunchers (brown) on 1 dropper and orange or pink and yellow fab on point 2 to 3ft down slow figure of eight retrieve. On Wednesday Matt Collerson netted 21 working his way on foot all around the lake and Andy Burgess landed 15 while out on a boat on black and red buzzers and a red beaded damsel, fished 7ft down under an indicator. On Friday Dave Strudwick whilst on his usual stroll of Elinor landed 22 from Brookside, using a straight line with buzzers and lures under an indicator and Matt Collerson caught 23 from the bank, switching between a straight line and buzzers under the bung. Congratulations to Mike Bownes for catching the biggest fish of the week and indeed the biggest fish he has ever landed, he caught a fin perfect carp weighing in at an estimated 25 – 30lb, he caught on a #12 diawl bach and took 15 mins to land! Best methods from the bank have been a fab on the point or unweighted lure with buzzers or diawl bachs on the dropper, the boat fishing should start to pick up shortly in the afternoons as the fish have been seen moving further out over the deeper water.

It’s been an outstanding week here at Elinor with favourable conditions lasting throughout the week, leading to some big bags of trout being caught. On Sunday Tony Milano landed 10 from his float tube and caught the week’s biggest rainbow at 8.5lb, on Montana nymphs and Alan Clover got away from the crowd and landed 8 from the bank of the lagoon.
